What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a type of complementary and alternative medicine. A hypnotherapist will use the imagination to help with a variety problems, such as breaking bad habits or coping with stress. Hypnotherapy is a natural state of physical relaxation and heightened mental awareness which bypasses the conscious mind; it focuses on the unconscious mind, where all our learnt behaviours are stored.

A partnership between therapist and client, hypnotherapy is drug-free and involves no physical manipulation. You are never judged, tricked, forced to reveal secrets or act in anyway which goes against your own instincts. And every session or consultation you have with Jenny takes place in absolute confidence.

What problems can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy can help with a wider variety of problems and challenges: stopping smoking, weight loss, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, insomnia, confidence, phobias, decision-making, nail-biting bereavement and much more.

How does hypnotherapy work?

Try telling someone who has a phobia of spiders that spiders are harmless because they are smaller than us. It just won’t work! You are appealing to their conscious (logical) mind. But the fear is coded at an unconscious level.

In a state of trance, the conscious mind can be switched off. And by inducing a trance, your hypnotherapist enables you to make positive, lasting changes to the way that you think and feel.

What does hypnotherapy feel like?

Whenever our mind wanders, daydreams or is focused on something like reading a book or driving on a familiar road, we are in a state of trance. It is a state of mind in which suggestions are acted upon much more intensely than when in a normal state.  During a hypnotherapy session, Jenny will simply guide you into a trance using the sound of her voice.

Many clients find their senses (smell, taste, hearing etc) are heightened during hypnosis.  And after a session you will feel uplifted, lighter, more relaxed and ready to go forward with the changes you want to make.

It is natural to feel apprehensive about a new therapy, but remember:

  • You will be aware of everything that is happening.
  • You may end a trance anytime by opening your eyes
  • You cannot be asked to do something that you don’t want to do
  • You are always in control
